Troubleshooting
Problem
Deploying a VM fails.
VM is in error status.
When deploying from powervc web console, you may see this error
Deploy of virtual machine vm-name on host hostname failed with exception: Build of instance vm-id aborted: Failure prepping block device.
Cause
Storage Firmware is being updated.
Diagnosing The Problem
Cinder logs may show the following error:
'CMMVC5772E The operation requested could not be performed because an update is in progress.\n'
Resolving The Problem
- Place the hosts assigned to storage controller in maintenance mode.
- Unmanage the storage controller being updated prior to the firmware update. This option has a longer recovery time, due to time it takes to re-manage the storage array.
