Activating an image pasted into a DOORS object results in "This object is a static DIB and cannot be activated" error

Troubleshooting

Problem

Attempts to activate an image pasted into an IBM Rational DOORS object results in the error "This object is a static DIB and cannot be activated".

Symptom

When you paste the clipboard contents into a DOORS object, it displays as part of the object.

If you move off the object, or save your change the image is replaced with paper icon.

When you attempt to activate it by double clicking the icon, a DOORS message displays the message:

This object is a static DIB and cannot be activated.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. On a Windows 7 machine, paste an image that you copied to the clipboard into a DOORS object

The image displays as part of the object

  2. Save your change or move to a different object

The image displays as a paper icon

  3. Attempt to activate the image by double clicking the icon

This will show a DOORS message saying the object can not be activated:

  4. After saving your change exit the module

  5. On a Windows XP machine log into DOORS and open the module

  6. The image pasted into the object displays as expected

  7. Double click the image to activate it results in a DOORS message:

This OLE object is a static DIB and cannot be activated

  8. Click OK
