Planning - Before you deploy Watson Explorer oneWEX for ICP Version 12.0.1

You must set up the Persistent Volumes (PVs) for oneWEX. To deploy Watson Explorer oneWEX on ICP, the Persistent Volumes listed in the Prerequisites section in the Watson Explorer oneWEX Helm Chart README are required.

Note: Watson Explorer oneWEX Helm Chart README is found after you install Watson Explorer oneWEX on IBM Cloud Private. Login to IBM Cloud Private, go to Catalog then select ibm-wex-prod.

See Installing Watson Explorer oneWEX on IBM Cloud Private before you install Watson Explorer oneWEX for ICP Version 12.0.1. Also, make sure to select the proper storage type (NFS, Glusterfs, etc.) that supports the listed access mode based on the Watson Explorer oneWEX Helm Chart README.

Performing a fresh installation of Watson Explorer oneWEX for ICP Version 12.0.1 on ICP 2.1.0.3

You can install Watson Explorer oneWEX for ICP Version 12.0.1 directly without installing Watson Explorer oneWEX for ICP Version 12.0.0 GA or Version 12.0.0.1. To perform a fresh installation of Watson Explorer oneWEX for ICP Version 12.0.1, follow the steps as described in Installing Watson Explorer oneWEX on IBM Cloud Private.

Upgrading to Watson Explorer oneWEX for ICP Version 12.0.1 on ICP 2.1.0.3

Following two scenarios are supported to upgrade from Watson Explorer oneWEX for ICP Version 12.0.0.1 on ICP Version 2.1.0.2 to Watson Explorer oneWEX for ICP Version 12.0.1 on ICP Version 2.1.0.3.

1. Upgrade ICP from Version 2.1.0.2 to 2.1.0.3 first, then upgrade Watson Explorer oneWEX for ICP

• Upgrade ICP Version 2.1.0.2 to 2.1.0.3 first.
• Upgrade Watson Explorer oneWEX for ICP from Version 12.0.0.1 to 12.0.1.

2. Upgrade Watson Explorer oneWEX for ICP from Version 12.0.0.1 to 12.0.1 first, then upgrade ICP

• Upgrade Watson Explorer oneWEX for ICP Version 12.0.0.1 to 12.0.1 on ICP Version 2.1.0.2 first.
• Upgrade ICP Version 2.1.0.2 to 2.1.0.3.

To upgrade Watson Explorer oneWEX for ICP Version 12.0.0.1 to 12.0.1:

1. Update ICP command line tools. See Accessing your IBM Cloud Private cluster by using the kubectl CLI.

2. Delete the deployed oneWEX on ICP from ICP management console. Login to ICP management console, select Workload > Helm Releases, and delete the deployed oneWEX.

3. After you delete the deployed oneWEX, delete PVCs and PVs with kubectl command.

• Do not delete the actual files on the PVs. You must keep your data on PVs as is if you need to keep the data created on oneWEX for ICP Version 12.0.0.1.
• In this example, wex-pv.yaml is the PV definition when you create the PVs on your system, typically done at Set up Storage section in Installing Watson Explorer oneWEX on IBM Cloud Private.

Notes:

    kubectl delete pvc --all
    kubectl delete -f wex-pv.yaml

4. Follow steps 2-8 in Installing Watson Explorer oneWEX on IBM Cloud Private.

5. After you deploy oneWEX for ICP Version 12.0.1, login to Watson Explorer administrative console or content miner and check if the existing collections are working as expected.

You can install Watson Explorer oneWEX for single container deployment Version 12.0.1 directly without installing Watson Explorer oneWEX for single container deployment Version 12.0.0 GA. To perform a fresh installation of Watson Explorer oneWEX for single container deployment Version 12.0.1, follow the steps as described in Installing Watson Explorer oneWEX on Docker.

Upgrading to Watson Explorer oneWEX for single container deployment Version 12.0.1

You can upgrade from Watson Explorer oneWEX for single container deployment Version 12.0.0 to Watson Explorer oneWEX for single container deployment Version 12.0.1 without uninstalling Watson Explorer oneWEX for single container deployment Version 12.0.0. To upgrade to Watson Explorer oneWEX for single container deployment Version 12.0.1, follow the steps as described in Installing Watson Explorer oneWEX on Docker to install Watson Explorer oneWEX for single container deployment Version 12.0.1.

You can install Watson Explorer Analytical Components Version 12.0.1 or Watson Explorer Foundational Components Version 12.0.1 directly without installing Watson Explorer Analytical Components Version 12.0.0 GA or Watson Explorer Foundational Components Version 12.0.0 GA . To perform a fresh installation of Watson Explorer Analytical Components Version 12.0.1 or Foundational Components Version 12.0.1, follow the steps as described in Installing Watson Explorer Content Analytics for Analytical Components or Installing and Integrating IBM Watson Explorer Foundational Components for Foundational Components.

Upgrading to Watson Explorer Analytical Components Version 12.0.1 or Foundational Components Version 12.0.1 

See Upgrading to Watson Explorer 12.0.x for detailed steps. Same steps are applicable when you are upgrading from Watson Explorer Analytical Components Version 12.0.0 or Watson Explorer Foundational Components Version 12.0.0.

For other versions, upgrading to Watson Explorer Version 12 is supported only from Watson Content Analytics (WCA) v3.5 to WEX  Analytical Components (AC) v12, from WEX AC v11.0.2 to WEX AC v12, and from WEX Foundational Components (FC) v11.0.2 to WEX FC v12. From other versions, upgrading to WCA v3.5, WEX FC v11.0.2, or WEX AC v11.0.2 is required before upgrading to WEX Version 12.
