Abstract

An error condition was discovered that affects IBM i operating systems 7.4.0 and 7.5.0 using the following ethernet adapters (CCINs) 2F04 2CEC 2CF3 2CFA 2CFB 2CF9 58FB 58FA and EC2A

An error condition was discovered that affects IBM i operating systems 7.4.0 and 7.5.0 using the following ethernet adapters (CCINs) 2F04 2CEC 2CF3 2CFA 2CFB 2CF9 58FB 58FA and EC2A. When these adapters have a need to perform a recovery operation. This recovery  operation will cause these adapters to enter a failed state. Once in this failed state it can only be resolved by performing a vary on with reset specified VRYCFG CFGOBJ(LINE_NAME) CFGTYPE(*LIN) STATUS(*ON) RESET(*YES) This vary on action will be disruptive to all ports on the adapter.

To avoid this error condition, it is recommended to apply the fixing PTFs for these Ethernet adapters.  The fixing PTFs require the system to be at the following fix levels:

  •  7.4.0 - TR11 
  •  7.5.0 - TR5

 Then the following HIPER PTFs (immediate apply) will need to be applied:

  • 7.4 - MJ01878 and MJ02011
  • 7.5 - MJ02009 and MJ02010

If the adapters are already in the failed condition, a vary on with a reset will be needed after applying the PTFs.
