Problem
Starting with IBM i version 7.6 (Release-date: April 2025), IBM i no longer supports Java 11 applications, including the Installation Manager version 1.10.x. IBM i 7.6 and later continues support for Java 8 applications like Installation Manager version 1.9.x.
IBM i version 7.3, version 7.4, and version 7.5 continues support for Java 11 per https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/java-products-and-options-ibm-i.
What does this mean for users of Installation Manager on IBM i?
1. For users that run Installation Manager 1.10.x on pre-7.6 versions of IBM i:
Do not upgrade to IBM i 7.6 or later. Upgrading to 7.6 without first uninstalling the Installation Manager 1.10.x and all Installation Manager-serviced products moves Installation Manager and products into an unsupported configuration. If you get yourself into this unsupported configuration, you must manually uninstall all Installation Manager-serviced products and the Installation Manager itself.
For users that run Installation Manager 1.10.x on pre-7.6 versions of IBM i, complete one of the following options:
a) Stay on the pre-7.6 IBM i version and continue running Installation Manager 1.10.x
b) If you must upgrade to IBM i 7.6, first, uninstall Installation Manager-serviced products and the Installation Manager 1.10.x itself. Next, install Installation Manager 1.9.x and reinstall Installation Manager-serviced products and then proceed with the IBM i 7.6 upgrade.
2. Users running Installation Manager 1.9.x on any IBM i version, which includes 7.6 or later:
All supported versions of IBM i continue to support Java 8 applications and Installation Manager 1.9.x.
For users that run 1.9.x on any IBM i version, complete one of the following options:
a) Stay on version Installation Manager 1.9.x since all supported IBM i versions continue to work.
b) Attempts to move from Installation Manager 1.9.x to 1.10.x on IBM i version 7.6 or later using the -ReinstallIM feature fails as follows:

Installc:
A Java Runtime Environment (JRE) or Java Development Kit (JDK)
must be available in order to run Installc. No Java virtual machine
was found after searching the following locations:
/QOpenSys/QIBM/ProdData/JavaVM/jdk11/64bit/bin/java
After the -reinstallIM failure attempt per the 2b) choice above, the existing Installation Manager 1.9.x will continue to operate correctly on your IBM i system.
