IBM Cloud Pak System Upgrades for Version 2.3.4.1 interim fix 1

This document provides upgrade information about IBM Cloud Pak® System Version 2.3.4.1 interim fix 1.

OVERVIEW:
This upgrade must be run with IBMENG.
PREREQUISITES:
  • This upgrade can be applied to Version 2.3.4.1 for Gen 4 W4600 Intel systems.
Other requirements:
  • At least 1.1 TB of free space is needed in the IBM Cloud Pak System storage.
  • The virtual manager needs to be configured with FQDN. For more information, see Configuring the virtual manager external IP address.
  • A temporary IPv4 address needs to be provided. The IP address needs to be in the same VLAN and network segment as the VMware vCenter and management node IP address.

Gen 3 Intel: W3550

Gen 4 Intel: W4600
The W3500 system model went end-of-life (EOL) in September 2024. The last available IBM Cloud Pak System version for the W3500 system model is Version 2.3.4.

The W3550 system model went end-of-life (EOL) in June 2024. The last available IBM Cloud Pak System version for the W3550 system model is Version 2.3.3.6 interim fix 2.

  • Pre-upgrade steps: 20 hours
  • Automated steps:
    20 hours

Compute Nodes: Around 2 hours per compute node.
Post Upgrade steps and verification: 8 hours
Notes:
  • The content update involves loading new files only. The client must enable the new content for use from the System > Catalog menu.
  • 3-hour management UI outage during Platform Systems Manager (PSM) upgrade.
  • Existing workloads continue to run, and new deployments are blocked during the upgrade.
  • To request an upgrade for your system, open a case (Severity 4 only) from the MySupport page.
PRE-UPGRADE QUICK CHECKLIST:
  • Ensure that the uptime of components such as switches and compute nodes is less than 300 days. If the uptime is more than 300 days, reboot the component before you proceed with the upgrade.
  • Put the rack into maintenance mode.
  • If Callhome is set up, disable it.
    • Select the option not to create a service ticket and not to collect logs.
  • Collect and check system health under System > Troubleshooting.
    • Collect System Logs..., select System Health Check.
    • Run System Health Report.
    • Verify that there are no critical hardware errors or problems.
  • Upload the upgrade package and run Check.
  • Review the known issues before you start the upgrade.
  • If your (client's) system includes a backup schedule, plan maintenance around the backup schedule, or get a client approval to disable backup to allow maintenance to complete, and re-enable the backup upon completion.
POST-UPGRADE QUICK CHECKLIST:
  • Check and verify critical problems and events; if verified, clear them.
  • Remove Maintenance mode.
  • Collect System Health log.
  • Import new content data.
