IBM Support

Best practices for choosing correct IBM Database Add-ins for Visual Studio installer

How To

Summary

Till Db2 V11.5.9, Db2 provides single 32-bit installer of IBM Database Add-ins for Visual Studio and starting with version 12.1, there are two separate installers - one for 32-bit and another one for 64-bit Visual Studio versions.

Hence, while selecting installer of IBM Database Add-ins for Visual Studio, best practices outlined under the "Steps" section need to be considered.

Environment

Microsoft Visual Studio on Windows

Steps

  1. The 12.1 installers should only be downloaded from
    https://early-access.ibm.com/software/support/trial/cst/programwebsite.wss?siteId=851&h=null&tabId=
  2. IBM Database Add-ins available from other sources (The Db2 Server image, Passport advantage) may have known issues and are not recommended for 12.1 release.
  3. 32-bit installs at default path of C:\Program Files (x86) and the 64-bit installs at default path of C:\Program Files and they should not be altered for 12.1 installations.
  4. 32-bit installer installs for Visual Studio version 2019 and 2017 while 64-bit installs for Visual Studio 2022.
  5. As mentioned in the other technote (https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/7178500), only one of 32-bit or 64-bit can exist at a time on any machine.
  6. These known limitations of 12.1 will be addressed in upcoming releases.
