Summary
IBM Installation Manager on z/OS moves from 31-bit Java 8 to to 64-bit Java 11 as part of Installation Manager Version 1.10. Customers upgrading to Version 1.10 or later from earlier levels must use a slightly different process to perform the upgrade.
Objective
This document describes the Installation Manager upgrade process from Version 1.9.3 or below to Version 1.10 and above.

Steps
To upgrade an existing (installed) IBM Installation Manager from Version 1.9.x to Version 1.10 or above, perform the following steps:
- Back up your Installation Manager appdata, binaries, and shared data directories, as well as IM-installed products.
- Update the IBM Installation Manager install kit (SGINZFS) by applying a current Installation Manager PTF to no-cost FMID HGIN140, or download and uncompress a current Installation Manager for z/OS install kit from IBM Fix Central. Mount the resulting filesystem, read-only, at its usual location on your z/OS system.
- Edit and submit the GIN2UPGD sample job in the SGINJCL data set. If you downloaded your sample jobs instead of installing them with SMP/E, you will need a current set of the IBM Installation Manager sample jobs (see link below).
- When the upgrade is complete, test your Installation Manager with the imcl -version or imcl -listInstalledPackages command.
If you have more than one Installation Manager, perform this process for each. Once an Installation Manager has been upgraded to Version 1.10 or above, you can return to the usual Installation Manager upgrade procedure.
Note: Because Installation Manager Version 1.10 and above uses a different format for the network credentials file (secure storage file) from Version 1.8 and 1.9, you will need to re-create your secure storage file(s) after the upgrade. Rename the old .ssf files and rerun the imcl saveCredential command as needed.
