IJ52998: DEFRAGFS -F ON A LARGE JFS2 FILESYSTEM MAY CAUSE CORRUPTION APPLIES TO AIX 7300-04

 

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • ?defragfs -f? on a very large jfs2 filesystem may cause
    corruption. The command will complete but may eave the
    filesystem degraded so that no file can be created or
    updated. In order to make the filesystem mountable
    again, fsck has to be run fix corruption.
    

Local fix

  • fsck can be run to correct corruption, but defragfs
    does not do a complete job of defragging filesystem
    

Problem summary

  • jfs2 becomes readonly
    

Problem conclusion

  • use int64 as data type to store extent offsets instead
    of int32
