Abstract

IBM DS8000 support for TS7700 FC5282 to be discontinued

Description

The TS7700 Feature Code (FC) 5282 Object Store was originally introduced in 2019 as part of microcode level R5.0.  This feature was enhanced in 2021 with the introduction of Feature Code 5283 Advanced Object Store. At that time, FC5282 was withdrawn from sale but continues to be supported. 

Feature Code 5283 provides object policy management and grid awareness of objects including the ability to do remote reads/writes, synchronous/asynchronous copies to any cluster in the grid, Copy Refresh migration services, object encryption between systems, as well as other functional enhancements. 

IBM DS8000 microcode levels beyond R9.4 SP2 and R10.0 will no longer support TS7700 FC5282 and will only support FC5283.

IBM TS7700 offers an inexpensive upgrade package for those clients that have FC5282 and wish to upgrade to FC5283 on existing TS7770 systems.  For more information about upgrading the FC5283, please contact your IBM TS7700 Storage Representative.

Recommended Action

IBM TS7700 customers with FC5282 should upgrade to FC5283.
