Commands a client can run on their Cisco (IBM c-type) SAN Switch to perform a health check

Environment

Steps

List of commands:

show module: Provides you with information about all inserted modules and their status.

show hardware: Displays more detailed information about each component.

show logging log: This should be checked for recently logged errors indicating hardware failure of some switch components.

show redundancy status (for Director type of switches): You can check the output to verify if both Supervisors are synchronized.

show interface brief: Verify no ports/port groups have faulted or have bad status. Look for any ports that may have a status such as hwfaliure, initialing, etc.

show module internal exceptionlog: Determine if there are any recently posted exceptions to operation.

show environment: Check to see if all Modules are Powered-Up, power is running properly, and temperature sensors are all within spec.

show interface transceiver details: To verify the Tx and Rx power levels of any SFP in the switch.

show interface counter / show interface detail-counter / show interface counters detail: Shows numbers of occurrences since the last time the statistics were cleared.
