This is the APAR for z/VM 7.4 Fix Pack 3. As such it
contains fixes for the following three problems:

    Problem 1
ABENDSXA004 CHANGE/TRANSFER FAIL TO RELEASE STORAGE

ABENDSXA004 can occur due to many cross-member CP TRANSFER or
CP CHANGE commands if they change the spool file owner. Under
some circumstances the memory used for a DVMD that is used
for an ESM call is not released and a storage leak occurs.

    -----

    Problem 2
CP SPOOL PROCESSING CAUSES DIRMAINT MESSAGE FLOOD

The problem is in the spool TRANSFER and CHANGE command
processing in an SSI cluster. Specifically, the problem occurs
when a TRANSFER or CHANGE command is issued for a file a user
owns that is a copy file on the member where the user is logged
on. When the file is moved between spool device queues (rdr to
prt/pun or prt/pun to rdr) but the owner of the file is not
changed, the file ends up in a bad state. The command response
indicates the file was transferred but it only happens on the
file's originating member and not on the copy member. This
leads to further unexpected behavior of other spool commands
such as QUERY RDR/PRT/PUN, QUERY FILES and PURGE.

    -----

    Problem 3
    VARY HANGS AFTER UNPLANNED HYPERSWAP

I/O requests are issued during the recovery process for unit
checks associated with the suspension of PPRC/Metro Mirror
relationships for DASD devices. During this recovery, I/O
requests on the associated control unit are quiesced to allow
this recovery to complete and the condition is then reset. It
was determined that some of this related recovery I/O could be
deferred and issued after the control unit quiesce has been
reset. This would allow the I/O subsystem for the control unit
to be returned to normal operation as soon as possible.

Problem conclusion

  • Problem 1
ABENDSXA004 CHANGE/TRANSFER FAIL TO RELEASE STORAGE

Because the DVMD is only needed for the ESM call, the DVMD is
obtained only in the case when that ESM call is needed. To
ensure that the conditional obtain and release of the DVMD are
in agreement, a test is added to HCPSCO subroutine FINDUSER to
call HCPUDRFU instead of HCPUDRGU when the protect flags are on
but the TRANSFER or CHANGE came in as a cross-system command.

    -----

    Problem 2
CP SPOOL PROCESSING CAUSES DIRMAINT MESSAGE FLOOD

Code has been added to HCPXTPCK to update SPFBRDBT when the
SPFBBITS field is updated prior to calling the routines to
    update the copy systems.

    -----

    Problem 3
    VARY HANGS AFTER UNPLANNED HYPERSWAP

PPRC/Metro Mirror suspension recovery was updated to reset the
associated control unit quiesce condition as soon as possible
and then complete the remainder of the associated recovery.
This reduces the potential for other processes to be delayed by
the pending PPRC suspend recovery process.
