Abstract

The 7063-CR1 HMC's BMC uses the iKVM viewer Java applet for remote control and virtual media functionality. This applet requires a compatible Java JRE or JDK environment with Java Web Start to work correctly. This document details the JREs and JDKs known to work with the iKVM viewer Java applet.

Known to work:
Known to NOT work:
  • IBM Semeru Runtime Java 8 LTS under MacOS (There is no IcedTea-Web option, so there is no way to open Java Web Start files.)
  • OpenWebStart under MacOS on ARM-based M1 or newer processors. (The iKVM viewer has some x86-specific code which does not execute in this environment.)
  • OpenJDK 1.8.0 with IcedTea-Web 1.8.4 under Linux (The iKVM application window opens and shows the HMC's screen content, but the menu bar is missing and the window does not respond to mouse clicks of keyboard input.)
  • OpenJDK 17 with IcedTea-Web 1.8.8 under Linux (Complains of unrecognized VM options.)
Not yet tested:
  • Oracle Java 8, 9, or 10 under Linux.
  • Oracle Java 9 or 10 under Windows and MacOS (on x86 processor models).
  • IBM Semeru Runtime java 8 LTS under MacOS with IcedTea-Web installed separately.
  • OpenJDK under Windows, MacOS, and Linux.
  • OpenWebStart under Windows, MacOS, and Linux with current versions of Java.
