Cognos Analytics fails to connect to Oracle Content Store or Audit Store with ORA-12505 error

Troubleshooting


Problem

Cognos Analytics fails to connect to Oracle Content Store with following error: ORA-12505, TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor
Correct TNS string was specified when "Oracle database (Advanced)" option was chosen in IBM Cognos Configuration.
Same problem happens if just "Oracle database" connection type is used with a database name, port number and service ID.
