Prerequisites

Following is the list of the prerequisites.

  • IBM Cloud Application Performance Management Hybrid Gateway version 8.1.4.0.
    Note: To determine the version of your Hybrid Gateway, see the /opt/ibm/hybridgateway/version_proxy.properties file on the computer system where the Hybrid Gateway is installed. 

  • Check the support matrix documented in the System requirements topic.

Pre-installation tasks

  • The IBM Cloud Application Performance Management Hybrid Gateway component version 8.1.4.0 must be installed and running before applying the interim fix.
  • Ensure that the unzip command is installed on the computer system where the IBM Cloud Application Performance Management Hybrid Gateway is installed before installing the interim fix.
  • This interim fix backs up the /opt/ibm/wlp directory. You must ensure that you have enough disk space to back up that directory structure before installing the interim fix. If sufficient disk space is not available, then the Liberty component patch will not install but the other component patches will install. You must run the hgpatch.sh again to install the Liberty patch after you have sufficient disk space.
  • You can reduce the amount of disk space required for the backup of the {apm_install_dir}/wlp directory by performing the following cleanup tasks before installing the interim fix.
    • Delete all the {hybrid_gateway_install_dir}/wlp-backup-{wlp_patch_number} directories if they exist, to free up the disk space. Replace {wlp_patch_number} with the numeric WLP patch numbers. These directories were created by the previous Cloud APM server interim fix installations and are not needed if you are installing the latest interim fix. 
      Example of WLP directories: wlp-backup-13, wlp-backup-12, wlp-backup-11, wlp-backup-10 and so on.
    • Delete the files that start with javacore, heapdump or core in the following directory.
      /opt/ibm/wlp/usr/servers/hybridgateway/
    • Delete the files that start with trace_ and messages_ in the following directories.
      /opt/ibm/wlp/usr/servers/hybridgateway/logs

Following are the download details for this release.

  1. Go to the Fix Central download link: 8.1.4.0-IBM-APM-GATEWAY-IF0014.
  2. In the Select fixes page, ensure that the release is selected, and click Continue.
  3. In the Download options page, select an appropriate option from the Select download options.
  4. Ensure you select Include prerequisites and co-requisite fixes (you can select the ones you need later), and click Continue.
  5. Depending upon the Operating system on which your agent is installed, click the appropriate download link.

Installation instructions

Proceed as follows to install the agent.

  1. Extract the patch bundle on each computer machine where the agent is already installed by using the appropriate utility depending on your Operating system.

  2. Open the extracted folder.
  3. Run the hgpatch script file.

    Linux

    cd 8.1.4.0-IBM-APM-GATEWAY-IF0014
./hgpatch.sh

    Notes: 

    • If Hybrid Gateway services need to be stopped for the patch to be applied, you will be asked to confirm whether you want to install the patch.
    • When hgpatch.sh is complete, a summary is displayed showing the number of fixes that were installed, the number of fixes that were not installed because they had previously been installed, and the number of fixes that failed to install. If any fixes failed to install, more information can be found in the hgpatch.log file in the logs directory,
      For example, opt/ibm/hybridgateway/logs/hgpatch.log
    • A record of each fix applied can be found in the /opt/ibm/hybridgateway/fixes directory. Do not modify this directory or its contents. It is needed if other fixes are applied in the future.

Post-installation tasks

  • The Hybrid Gateway interim fix installation logs are written to the /opt/ibm/hybridgateway/logs/hgpatch.log file.

  • After you have verified that the Cloud APM Hybrid Gateway is working with the new interim fix,  you can delete the /opt/ibm/{wlp-backup-14} directory to free up disk space.

Uninstallation instructions

Files modified by the interim fix are backed up during the installation. If you encounter an issue with the interim fix and need to roll it back, then contact IBM support for assistance. For more information, see Uninstalling the Hybrid Gateway topic.
