    function to the SPECIFICIMP function when calling z/OS WLM

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All Distributed Data Facility (DDF) users. *
    *                 Specifically where Db2 is a member of a      *
    *                 data sharing group.                          *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Db2 for z/OS currently utilizes the *
    * functions SELECT, QUERY and SPECIFIC *
    * provided by z/OS WLM IWMSRSRS routing *
    *                      service.                                *
    *                      With z/OS APAR OA62027, WLM IWMSRSRS    *
    *                      routing service provides a fourth       *
    *                      function, SPECIFICIMP, and Db2          *
    * currently does not support this. *
    ****************************************************************
    When a Db2 for z/OS server is a part of a data sharing group,
    Db2 returns a list of eligble Db2 members with a weight
    assigned to each member. This list is provided by WLM when Db2
    calls the IWMSRSRS FUNCTION=SPECIFIC sysplex routing services.
    Each Db2 member is then assigned a relative weight according to
    WLM and remote clients accessing the Db2 data sharing group can
    route work to the Db2 members based on the recommended weights.
    However, calling the IWMSRSRS FUNCTION=SPECIFIC routing service
    does not take into consideration the importance factor of the
    work when calculating the relative weight for each Db2 member.
    This may result in a workload distribution which is less
    effective compared to a distribution which considers the
    importance of the work being routed.

Problem conclusion

Temporary fix

Comments

  • Db2 13 for z/OS has been changed to call the WLM IWMSRSRS
    routing service specifying the SPECIFICIMP function, if that
    service is available. If the SPECIFICIMP function is not
    available, Db2 will continue to call the WLM IWMSRSRS routing
    service specifying the SPECFIC function.
