APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Signal 11 hit in function AclDataFile::hashInsert in acl.C, due
    to race condition when adding ACLs and handling cached ACL data
    invalidation during node recovery or hitting a disk error,
    resulting in mmfsd daemon crash.
    

Local fix

  • - Avoid settings ACLs to inodes
    

Problem summary

  • Signal 11 hit in function AclDataFile::hashInsert in acl.C, due
    to race condition when adding ACLs and handling cached ACL data
    invalidation during node recovery or hitting a disk error,
    resulting in mmfsd daemon crash.
    

Problem conclusion

  • This problem is fixed in 5.1.9.5

    Benefits of the solution:
    Fixed the code so the race condition and daemon crash are
    avoided.
    
    Work Around:
    - Avoid settings ACLs to inodes
    
    Problem trigger:
    - Setting ACLs while node recovery or a disk error happens. Node
    recovery or disk error invalidates the internal cached ACL data
    so there is a small window when setting ACLs during this time
    can cause unassigned memory access.
    
    Symptom:
