Service bulletin 216: Potential data loss with APAR PJ46819 applied

Preventive Service Planning

Abstract

With APAR PJ46819, a 000700 (CTL-I000700) system error might occur during a destructive IPL in a loosely coupled complex. To proceed with the destructive IPL, the recovery logs for the affected processors must be cleared, which results in data loss. Apply APAR PJ48061 to resolve the issue.

Content

With APAR PJ46819 applied, persistent messages for 64-bit IBM MQ queues are written to the system recovery log. When a destructive IPL occurs in a loosely coupled complex, the processor that is being IPLed processes the recovery logs for the other processors in the complex before proceeding with the destructive IPL. This recovery log processing occurs before multi-path lock facility (MPLF) functionality is restored on the processor that is being IPLed and the system cannot get file record locks.

However, with APAR PJ46819, #IMQCX fixed file records might be read with a hold during the destructive IPL if there are 64-bit IBM MQ records on another processor's recovery log, which results in a 000700 system error. To recover from this error and successfully proceed with a destructive IPL, the recovery logs that contain the 64-bit IBM MQ records must be cleared.

Apply APAR PJ48061 to resolve this issue.
