Abstract
Effective September 30th 2024, IBM will discontinue all future releases of the Solaris version of IBM Tivoli Netcool/Impact 7.1.x.
Content
Starting on this date, IBM will no longer provide cumulative fix packs or full installation packages for the Solaris operating system. This decision is driven by security vulnerabilities in Java 8 and the lack of support for Java 17 on Solaris.
As a result, Solaris clients will no longer receive regular security updates or other fixes related to IBM Tivoli Netcool/Impact. However, limited support for critical security threats and high-severity issues may be available upon request.
IBM has recognized Solaris as a non-strategic operating system, aligning its focus on Linux platforms — particularly Red Hat-based distributions — as part of a broader transition toward cloud computing environments.
This change affects only the Solaris versions of IBM Tivoli Netcool/Impact, beginning with Fix Pack 7.1.0.35. All other supported operating systems will continue to receive updates and follow their standard lifecycle, including full client support.
IBM recommends that Solaris clients migrate to strategic platforms such as Linux, AIX, or Windows to ensure continued support and access to future enhancements.
