APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • After GDPS Metro DASD Config processing completes, subsequent
PPRC suspension events are presented as IEA494I individual
device suspensions instead of IEA075I PPRC summary events.

Display Unit commands show utility devices are not in the
    expected F-sys status.

    Additional Symptom:

If a channel path is configured online while associated
utility device(s) are not in F-sys status, subsequent PPRC
suspension events may present IEA494I messages without the
SECSSID token. This can cause an unnecessary Metro Freeze
to occur in multi-target configurations when a suspension
occurs on the Global Mirror leg.

Local fix

  • IPL the alternate K-sys to return utility devices to F-sys
    status.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: DASD Config leaves utility devices *
    * ungrouped on alternate controlling *
    *                      system.                                 *
    ****************************************************************
As part of GDPS Metro DASD Config processing, utility devices
must be removed from F-sys status on the controlling systems.
When the Config processing has completed, the devices should be
returned to F-sys status, but this does not occur on the
alternate K-sys. As a result, PPRC summary suspension events
may not be presented on that system.

Problem conclusion

  • This PTF corrects the reported problem. Utility devices on both
controlling systems will be returned to F-sys status at the end
of the DASD Config process. Also GDPS monitor1 will now check
utility device status on the alternate controlling system as
well as the controlling system, The monitoring now also has
improved detection and handling of boxed devices.
