Problem
In HMC V10R3 1060, when updating system firmware, the last step of the process always includes a checkbox that states "I acknowledge that system disruption will occur." regardless of the concurrency of the selected target level.
In addition, if the checkbox is not checked, the update process will not proceed, even if just concurrent target levels were selected.
This leads to confusion as concurrent levels should never incur disruption.
Symptom
Seen in HMC V10R3 1060 "Update System Firmware" operations from the graphical user interface where the operation type is "Update".
Cause
Programming error currently under investigation.
Environment
Hardware Management Console V10 R3 1060.
Diagnosing The Problem
The problem is present on all HMCs V10 R3 1060.
Resolving The Problem
When performing a system firmware update, and the type of operation is "Update", the concurrency of an operation is displayed in the corresponding "Target level" column for the specific system type.
All disruptive target levels show both a text string reading, "(Disruptive)", but also a yellow exclamation mark triangle to indicate attention.
All concurrent target levels show just the number of the target level without additional text.
Examples:
This screenshot shows the "I acknowledge that system disruption will occur." checkbox still unchecked (1). If the user attempts to proceed with the operation, the text in red is shown to alert that acknowledgement is required.
The screenshot also contains an example of how a concurrent target level is displayed (2) where only the number of the target level is displayed in the "Target level" column.
When the target level is disruptive, the text "(Disruptive)" is displayed in the "Target level" column, along with an attention sign (3).
Only the target levels marked as "Disruptive" will undergo a disruptive operation. All concurrent levels, will undergo a concurrent update. The checkbox must be checked for the operation to continue even if all target levels are concurrent.
