PH61509: OUTOFMEMORYERROR JAXRSCLIENTCONFIGHOLDER HOLD A LOT OF HASHMAP$NODE

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• OutOfMemoryError occurred since
  com.ibm.ws.jaxrs20.clientconfig.JAXRSClientConfigHolder had a
  large number of HashMap$Node. The hashmap was holding 686,868
  entries, the total size was about 350 MB in 512 MB java heap.
  MAT shows each hashmap entries have URL string.

  OutOfMemoryError can occur due to
  com.ibm.ws.jaxrs20.clientconfig.JAXRSClientConfigHolder holding
  a
  large number of HashMap objects. The memory is not being freed
  during a normal GC cycle.
  

Problem conclusion

• This problem was caused by the fact that
  JAXRSClientConfigHolder
  stored search results in a HashMap that will not be freed in a
  normal GC cycle.   The solution was to change this to a
  LinkedHashMap that will allow for memory to be cleared during a
  GC.
