Description

Description

RETAIN TIPs: H187766 for m/t 2094 and H187767 for m/t 2096
Newly identified HIPER MCL130, Bundle 26, in the J99673 (I390ML) stream was released on August 2, 2006. The issue this MCL fixes, has recently been determined to be capable of causing an unscheduled system outage.
During normal operations, the reset of a system partition image (IPL), may erroneously try to recover a hardstop recovery state for a subchannel that is already in channel control check recovery. The resulting channel subsystem recovery can cause a threshold condition resulting in a system checkstop.

Recommended Action

Because of the potential system outage impact, Product Engineering is recommending the installation of HIPER MCL130, Bundle 26, in the J99673 (I390ML) stream as soon as possible. This MCL can be installed concurrently with system operation.
Please note that HIPER MCL134, Bundle 26C, also in the J99673 (I390ML) stream is labeled as HIPER too. It is imperative that both of these MCLs be installed as soon as possible.

Please contact your next level of support if you have any questions or require assistance.
