Abstract:
HIPER MCL released to fix an issue with the Test Pending Interruption instruction (TPI).
Description
A HIPER MCL has been released on Driver 73 to fix an issue with the TPI instruction, that can result in a Program Interrupt Code 0001(operation exception) or Program Interrupt Code 0006 (specification exception). The resultant impact of the issue could also create a modified subchannel hang which could lead to an I/O Subsystem (IOS) hang condition requiring an IPL of the parition to recover.
The instruction being executed at the time of this failure is a Test Pending Interrupt (TPI) instruction. This issue was reported to IBM as a zOS ABEND0C1 and ABEND0C6 but is not limited to zOS and could occur on machines using any system control program; including zVM, zVSE, or zLinux. The following HIPER MCL has been released to fix this issue:
Driver 73 -- HIPER MCL048 in the F85903 (I390/ PU Millicode) stream Available in RETAIN April 2, 2008 in bundle 23
This is a z10 (2097) only issue and does not exist on any other machine type.
Recommended Action
Product Engineering recommends the installation of Driver 73 HIPER MCL048 in the F85903 (I390/ PU Millicode) stream to fix this issue. This MCL can be installed concurrent with system operations.
