PowerHA snapshot Backup and Restore

How To

Summary

This document will guide you through the steps to make a backup and restore of your cluster configuration.

Objective

It is important of keep a backup your cluster configuration. In case you run into any unforseen complication problems, such as HW failure or AIX filesystem corruption.  You could use the snapshot backup to bring your cluster configuration back in timely manner.

Environment

AIX 7.2.6

PowerHA: 7.2.8

Two nodes cluster environment.

Steps

Here are the steps:

1-)  Create a cluster snapshot (.odm file only):

       At one node <node 1>:

               $ /usr/es/sbin/cluster/utilities/clsnapshot -c -n'[snapshot name]' -d '[description]'

2-)  Remove the existing cluster configuration

        Stop the entire cluster:

              $ clmgr offline cluster WHEN=now MANAGE=offline

       Remove cluster (PowerHA cluster incl. CAA cluster and RSCT peer domain):

             $ clmgr -f delete cluster NODES=ALL

   3-)  Verify to make sure caavg_private is removed.  If the CAA repository disk is still present, run the following commands to manually remove the caavg_private.

         On all nodes:

           $ export CAA_FORCE_ENABLED=1

           $ rmcluster -f -r hdisk# (repository disk)

           $ rmdev -dl cluster0

           $ shutdown -Fr

4-)   Reconfigure RSCT to assign a new (unique) RSCt NodeID

         At node2:

          $ /usr/sbin/rsct/install/bin/recfgct

       Verify that the RSCT NodeID has been changed

          $ head -n 1 /var/ct/cfg/ct_node_id

5-) Restore HA config from cluster snapshot:

          At node1:

          $ /usr/es/sbin/cluster/utilities/clsnapshot -a -n'[snapshot name]' '-C' -f'true'

6-) Verify that CAA cluster is configured and nodes are UP in CAA.

         At both nodes:

          $ clcmd lscluster -c

          $ clcmd lscluster -m

 7-) Verify that RSCT ID on node [node2] has changed, both nodes are Online and see each other as Online

          $ clcmd lsrpnode -i

8-)  Restart PowerHA

        At  node1

        $ clmgr online cluster WHEN=now MANAGE=auto
