Abstract

IBM z15 T01 and IBM LinuxONE III LT1 are being withdrawn from marketing (WfM). This document identifies the impacts of the WfM on offerings controlled by Customer Initiated Upgrade (CIU).

IBM machine type 8561 withdrawn from marketing

Effective December 31, 2024, IBM® will withdraw from marketing features and conversions that are delivered solely through a modification to the Licensed Internal Code (LIC) for the IBM z15 T01 and IBM LinuxONE III LT1. The last dates you can order the withdrawn products are one day before the effective withdrawal dates.

This withdrawal from marketing includes features and conversions delivered as Capacity on Demand (CoD) records for permanent upgrade, On/Off CoD, CBU, System Recovery Boost, and CPE offerings ordered via the Customer Initiated Upgrade (CIU) application on Resource Link. After December 30, 2024, CIU on Resource Link will not allow and IBM will not accept any new CoD record orders for machine type 8561.

New CoD records for machine type 8561 must be ordered by December 30, 2024. Records must be downloaded within 90 days. After March 30, 2025, CoD record orders for machine type 8561 will be cancelled if the records have not been downloaded.

Post paid On/Off CoD record Expires 180 days after it is ordered. A record ordered on December 30, 2024 can be activated until midnight GMT on June 28, 2025.
Prepaid On/Off CoD record Expires 180-days past the LICCC withdrawal from marketing.  Records may continue to be renewed manually, or via auto-renewal to extend their life until December 31, 2029.
Capacity Backup (CBU) record Record can be activated until midnight GMT on its expiration date.
Additional CBU tests and the restoration of the real activation token may be ordered through sales for unexpired records.
Capacity for Planned Events (CPE) record No expiration date.
System recovery boost upgrade record. Record can be activated until midnight GMT on its expiration date.   For clients with auto-replenishment enabled, replenishments will continue until record expires.  For clients without auto-replenishment enabled, replenishments may be ordered via sales.

Installed post paid On/Off CoD records with auto renewal enabled will be renewed for a final time on December 30, 2024 to extend the expiration date to June 28, 2025. Installed prepaid On/Off CoD records with auto renewal enabled will continue to be renewed to extend the expiration date to December 31, 2029.

A CoD record downloaded by March 30, 2025 can be activated until its expiration date, if any:
