Error description

  • Received message DSN1996I VSAM OPEN ERROR, ACBERRFLG = 160 using
DSN1COPY to Restore a Incremental Copy at an Extended Vsam. This
error message is being caused because DSN1COPY is using ICIP
(Improved Control Interval Processing) to access this Extended
Vsam during the Restore process of the Incremental Copy.

This APAR addresses two problems that may occur when the
input is an incremental copy (PARM='INCRCOPY,...'):

    1. When the input is an incremental copy, DSN1COPY opens
the output DB2 data set in the Improved Control Interval
Processing (ICIP) mode. However, ICIP is not supported
for EF data sets. The open results in the VSAM OPEN ERROR
       ACBERFLG=160.
The problem may also occur if the input data set is an
       inline copy (INLCOPY).
    2. If the input incremental copy causes DSN1COPY to extend
a linear tablespace from the current end of data to fill
the data set and then into a new data set, DSN1COPY
opens the new data set in VSAM Direct mode. This is
incorrect. It results in the VSAM OPEN ERROR ACBERFLG=224.
It should open the data set in VSAM Sequential mode.

Problem conclusion

  • 1. DSN1COPY no longer opens VSAM output data sets in
       Improved CI Processing (ICIP) mode.
    2. If the input data set is an incremental copy and the output
linear table space is being extended to a new data set,
DSN1COPY now opens the data set in VSAM sequential mode.
