What features of IBM z/OS Debugger support multi-factor authentication (MFA)?

Answer

Supported
All of the functions of IBM z/OS Debugger ISPF Utilities.
Debugging in TSO foreground by using the TEST(,,,MFI:*) option.
Debugging on a remote 3270 terminal by using the TEST(,,,VTAM%userid:*) option.  See APAR PH17417.
Debugging on a remote 3270 terminal by using the TEST(,,,MFI%terminal-LU:*) option.
Remote debugging or code coverage with clients such as IDz or IBM Debug for z/OS, by using either standard or Debug Tool compatibility mode by one of the following options:
  • TEST(,,,DIRECT&ip-addr%port:*)
  • TEST(,,,TCPIP&ip-addr%port:*)
Eclipse Remote System Explorer connection-based features, provided RSE is configured for MFA:
  • Remote debugging or code coverage with IDEs such as IDz, IBM Debug for z Systems, or Wazi Developer for Eclipse, by using either standard or Debug Tool compatibility mode by one of the following options:
    • TEST(,,,DBM:*), (deprecated)
    • TEST(,,,DBMDT:*)
  • By using the following launch configurations to configure remote debug profiles, or launch debug or code coverage sessions:
    • z/OS Batch Application using existing JCL and z/OS Batch Application with property group

Debug Profile Service provides MFA support, via bearer authentication in version 16.0.6 and up, along with its dependent functions:
  • z/OS Debug Profiles view, and Debug Profile Editor in Eclipse IDEs.
  • Profiles view in IBM Z Open Debug.
  • Profile Management
Remote Debug Service provides MFA support in version 16.0.6 and up, along its dependent function:
  • Remote debug in IBM Z Open Debug in Visual Studio Code.
  • Code Coverage Service when started with RDS with bearer authentication.
Headles Code Coverage on z/OS provides MFA support in version 16.0.6 and up, along with its dependent function:
  • Code Coverage Service when started with bearer authentication.

Not Supported
Eclipse ADFz Common Components server and connection-based features, which do not provide MFA support:
  • By using the following launch configurations to configure remote debug profiles, or launch debug or code coverage sessions:
    • Remote CICS Application (deprecated)
    • Remote IMS Application with IMS Isolation (deprecated)
  • By using any of the legacy Debug Tool plug-ins (deprecated):
    • DTCN

    • LMA
    • Debug Tool Code Coverage
    • JCL Instrumentation
