IBM Datacap: Connecting to a multifunction printer or MFP scanner

General Page

This document contains information about best practices and recommendations for connecting IBM Datacap to a multifunction printer or MFP scanner.
IBM Datacap supports the TWAIN interface to talk to the scanner’s TWAIN drivers.

Any scanner with a TWAIN driver should work. However, problems are observed with TWAIN implementations on MFPs where either the MFP expects a non-standard TWAIN response or interferes with the TWAIN device configuration or the other functions, such as printing or faxing.

In such scenarios, if the customer uses a given MFP, the MFP will not work with Datacap directly. We recommend that the MFP scanner TWAIN driver be installed and configured to save the images into the same local or network folder where Datacap is configured to ingest the documents from that folder.
