Problem
VRSAS_FABRIC_ERROR, SRN 2D11-4101 can be logged. On boot up of AIX / VIOS partitions, with LT0-9 HH external tape drives, TS2290 LTO-9 SAS HH or, HH LTO-9 SAS, 7226 with FC8641 stand-alone tape drive connected.
Cause
LTO-9 tape drives connected with SAS interface are NOT supported in AIX / VIOS. FC EJ10 and EJ11 CCIN 57B4 4-port SAS does not support the LTO-9 HH tape drive. There are no SAS adapters for AIX / VIOS that support the LTO-9 SAS tape drives. Only FC 8646 HH LTO-9 Fibre Channel in 7226 enclosure are supported by AIX / VIOS. The tape drive functions normally but log errors on boot up.
Environment
The LTO-9 SAS HH tape drive is ONLY supported when connected natively to partitions with IBM I operating system, by using FC EJ2B (CCIN 57F2) 4-port SAS or FC EJ2C (CCIN 57F2) 4-port SAS low profile.
Resolving The Problem
Customer can choose to ignore the errors and the LTO-9 tape drive will function normally. There is no fix for the VRSAS_FABRIC_ERROR, SRN 2D11-4101. Otherwise, the customer should work with sales to verify their configuration and confirm that the proper supported features are ordered for their system.
