Due to an issue in the client-side Dynamsoft Service, IBM Datacap Navigator plugin is at risk for malicious code to be executed remotely. This bulletin identifies the steps to take to address the vulnerability.

DESCRIPTION: Due to inadequate verification processes in the client-side component of the Dynamsoft Service module of the Datacap Navigator Plugin for IBM Content Navigator, there is a risk that malicious code could be remotely executed. This vulnerability poses a potential threat to the security of end-user machines.

Remediation/Fixes
IBM strongly suggests that you address the vulnerability now for all affected products/versions listed above by installing fix at Fix Central
All customers running the Dynamsoft scanning service with the IBM Datacap Navigator plugin on their client Windows and Mac computers should immediately install an updated version.
Customers running IBM Datacap 9.1.9 interim fix 004 should download and deploy the ‘Datacap919iFix004_DynamsoftServiceUpdate’ file from fix central. The fixed version of this Dynamsoft service is 1.8.2014.
Customers running IBM Datacap 9.1.9 GA through interim fix 003 should download and deploy the ‘Datacap919GA-919iFix003_DynamsoftServiceUpdate’ file from fix central. The fixed version of this Dynamsoft service is 1.7.4212.
Customers running IBM Datacap 9.1.7 GA through interim fix 007 or IBM Datacap 9.1.8 GA through interim fix 004 should download and deploy the ‘Datacap917GA-918iFix004_DynamsoftServiceUpdate’ file from fix central. The fixed version of this Dynamsoft service is 1.5.3.1212.
Customers running IBM Datacap 9.1.5 or IBM Datacap 9.1.6 should remove the Dynamic Web TWAIN module from their desktops and deploy Datacap Desktop to these computers to support local scanning while they plan an upgrade to IBM Datacap 9.1.9 in order to get to a remediated web scanning capability.
