Troubleshooting
Problem
BSC devices cannot establish sessions with an application residing on a pure End Node (EN) or Network Node (NN).
Cause
If an EN is changed from a Migration Data Host (MDH) to a pure EN, or an NN is changed from an Interchange Node (ICN) or Composite Network Node (CNN) to a pure NN, any session involving a BSC device and an application on the pure EN or NN will fail. The failure is due to the inability of the BSC device to understand APPN protocols.
Resolving The Problem
As long as BSC devices exist in the network, subarea paths must exist to all potential partner-application owning hosts. This is documented in a note in the Dependent LUs section of the SNA Network Implementation Guide.
