Problem

After logging into Planning Analytics for Excel, the following error is thrown: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Symptom

If you click Details: 
System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
at Cognos.Office.Framework.Service.Application_OverviewChanged(Object sender, EventArgs e)
at Cognos.Office.Framework.Plugins.APlugInApplication.OnOverviewChanged() at Cognos.Office.Reporting.UILayer.UIManager.SetActiveUI(Worksheet sheet) at Cognos.Office.Reporting.UILayer.UIManager.Excel_SheetActivate(Object sheet)
Task pane missing objects is also a likely symptom for this.
