Flashes (Alerts)

Abstract

The kernel dump capture operation might not complete when configuring a dump target on:
- NVMe adapters and NVMe SSD devices
- Fibre channel devices

Content

Linux Releases Affected
Red Hat® Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 9.3, and later

IBM Systems Affected
All Power10 systems with Emulex FC adapters that have feature codes: EN1A, EN1L, or EN1N.
All Power10 systems with NVMe adapters and NVMe SSD devices.
Description
Linux installation on any disks. If kdump target is on a NVMe or FC device, then the dump capture operation fails to save the vmcore on the device.

Workaround
  1. Edit /etc/sysconfig/kdump. Modify the KDUMP_COMMANDLINE_APPEND parameter to remove the "maxcpus=1" string and save the file.
  2. Restart the kdump service by running the following command:
    # systemctl restart kdump.service
