WebSphere Liberty and Open Liberty container images will switch to Red Hat Universal Base Image (UBI) 9

News

Abstract

WebSphere Liberty and Open Liberty container images based on Red Hat Universal Base Image (UBI) will use UBI 9 in the future

Content

Recommended Action

Prepare for the transition to UBI 9 standard images,  built from a subset of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) content, by reviewing the major changes in RHEL 9 and assessing whether your applications will be impacted.

Additional information on the changes is provided in the Deprecated functionality section at https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/9/html-single/9.0_release_notes/index#deprecated_functionality.

As UBI 9 images are unsupported on a RHEL 7 host, ensure that your application images based on UBI 9 are deployed to a host on RHEL 8 or higher.  UBI 9 images are unsupported on a RHEL 7 host as per the Red Hat Enterprise Linux Container Compatibility Matrix.
