APAR status

  • Closed as new function.

Error description

  • New function will be added to zDMF to allow currently
unsupported blksize and cisize datasets to be converted to
extended format. This will be a new process that requires the
    dataset to be not-in-use.

    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF when available. *
    ****************************************************************
Currently, zDMF cannot convert some datasets to extended format
or perform basic/large dataset encryption because these
require either a prefix or suffix to be appended to each block
in the dataset. If the increased block size causes fewer
blocks to fit on a track, zDMF cannot process them. The
Logical-Copy function provides for re-blocking by copying the
datasets at a logical record level.

Problem conclusion

  • New function added to zDMF to allow currently
unsupported blksize and cisize datasets to be converted to
extended format and/or encrypted. This is a new process
that requires the dataset to be not-in-use.

A new keyword LOGICAL-COPY is added to GROUP definitions to
    invoke this new function.
