IBM Support

Application of p2 license activation kit to IBM Rational Developer for i 9.9 status Nodelock

Troubleshooting

Problem

In IBM Rational Developer for i 9.9, the permanent activation kit is installed through Help/Install New Software.
At times, this license application appears to succeed; however, the license display continues to show either as Trial with an eventual expiration or Nodelock.

Symptom

After applying the license, Help/Manage Licenses still shows RPG and COBOL Tools as Trial or the license registers as Nodelock.

However, the Help/About IBM Rational Developer for i/Installation Details shows the permanent license installed.

Help About RDi shows Permanent License applied

Cause

  • A user with Administrator rights needs to install the license if a non-Administrator user will be using the workbench.
  • Download the license file to the local machine, instead of accessing from a network drive.
  • Nodelock status needs to be corrected.

Environment

Windows

Diagnosing The Problem

Initial installation before applying the license will show in the user's workspace .log file:
!MESSAGE Its a tryBuy license

After applying the license, it appears to be installed, but is nodelocked:

Resolving The Problem

To resolve the license type and status:

  • Delete the  nodelockp2 and .bak files from C:\ProgramData\IBM\p2\license\LUM.
  • Restart the workspace.

Now, the license shows up as Nodelock, but not Permanent yet under Manage Licenses.

Remove the installed RDi 9.9 p2 Permanent Activation kit from Help/About IBM Rational Developer for i.

  • Go to Help/About IBM Rational Developer for i.
  • Select Installation Details.
  • Select the Permanent Activation kit entry.
  • Select Uninstall.

Uninstal from Help/About RDi to correct Nodelock

  • Review and confirm on the next screen.
  • Restart the workspace.
  • Reapply the license through Help/Install New Software/Add.
  • Restart the workspace again.

The RDi  9.9 License now shows up as applied and Permanent.

RDi 9.8 Permanent License finally applied in Manage Licenses
