Abstract
When the PTF for MA50161 is PERM applied, and the PTF for MA50018 is not PERM applied, and a SAVSYS is taken, a D-mode IPL from that tape will fail with B6005121.

A code defect has been recently discovered. There is a set of fairly recent tape PTFs for the following APARs:

Some of the code supplied by the PTFs for MA50161 does a check for some of the code supplied by the PTFs in MA50018. This works fine while the system is up and running beyond a certain point, but does not work during the D-mode IPL. So the problem can be described as:
Problem Description: When the PTF for MA50161 is PERM applied and the PTF for MA50018 is not PERM applied, and a SAVSYS is taken, a D-mode IPL from that tape will fail with B6005121.
The PTFs for MA50161 are marked defective and the superseding PTFs are HIPER. The fixing PTFs were approved on the afternoon of 8/8/2023.

Circumventions:
- Perform the D-mode IPL from IBM-supplied installation media. Tape can then be selected as the alternate installation device.
- Perform the D-mode IPL from a SAVSYS tape that does not have the PTF for MA50161 PERM applied.
- PERM apply the PTF for MA50018 and take another SAVSYS and perform the D-mode IPL from the new SAVSYS.
