Error description

  • TDMF will issue a Perform Subsystem Function CCW to commit
    Cache Fast Write data to the disk if a CFW ID is found in the
    controller.

    NOTE: This will be done even if CFW has been deactivated by
    an IDCAMS SETCACHE command.

    PSF and other maintenance CCWs may take longer than the IOT or
    MIH values depending on the customer IOT/MIH settings.

    Some customers will disable CFW at the CU level due to HyperSwap
    recommendations, TDMF will check this and not issue the COMMIT.

    TDMF will now allow a Non-Disruptive Statesave to be issued to
    a migration volume, previously all Diagnostic Control CCWs would
    terminate the migration volume.

Local fix

  • IOT and MIH values can be set by device class or individually
    via the SETIOS command.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: Users who lower the IOT (I/O Timing) values *
    * below the suggested 6 second value. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: IOS080I can be issued for long running *
    * I/Os when the IOT value is lower than *
    * the time taken to complete the I/O. *
    *                                                              *
    * In this case a CFW COMMIT can take 5 *
    *                      seconds to complete.                    *
    *                                                              *
    * In this instance automation is used to *
    *                      trigger a Non-Disruptive Statesave and  *
    * TDMF terminated the volume migration *
    * due to the Diagnostic Control CCW *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the fix *
    ****************************************************************
    TDMF will not issue the CFW COMMIT if the CU has CFW disabled.

    We will now support the NDSS and not terminate the volume
    migration.

Problem conclusion

  • Code changed to check for CFW being disabled and to allow the
    NDSS Diagnostic Control CCW.
