Send Email fails in IBM Content Navigator deployed in a container environment

Troubleshooting

Problem

If IBM Content Navigator or Business Automation Navigator is deployed as a container, the HTML-based email service does not work.  In this environment, the email service cannot be used to send documents or links to documents. And, email notifications are not sent.

Symptom

When the send email functionality is used, error messages like the following appear in the IBM WebSphere Liberty messages log:

SystemOut O [06/15/23 00:58:27:233 UTC] 0000003a SystemOut O CIWEB Error [xxxx] com.ibm.ecm.mediator.BaseMediator.addError() add error: email.error.failed 2601",

SystemOut O CIWEB Error: [xxxx] com.ibm.ecm.struts.actions.EmailAction.executeBaseAction()
javax.mail.MessagingException: IOException while sending message;
nested exception is:
javax.activation.UnsupportedDataTypeException: no object DCH for MIME type multipart/mixed;
