Troubleshooting
Problem
User launches Excel, and opens an Excel link (*.XLS) spreadsheet. User clicks 'F9' on their keyboard (to run this spreadsheet/report). User receives error message. At the lower-left corner of the screen, there is the message 'Fetching values, please wait...'. User clicks OK, and receives a series of more error messages.
Symptom
One or all of the following errors may be encountered
- IBM Cognos 8 Controller Link
Specified OLE variant is invalid.

Run-time error '5':
Specified OLE variant is invalid.
OK
CallFunction::Invoke(CompareDb) failed with 0x80010007
CallFunc::GetIDsOfNames 'DoExit' returned 0x80010007
Out of memory
pDispFrangoApp == NULL in CallConvertFunc
Also, the following may also be seen:
- Microsoft Office Excel has encountered a problem and needs to close.
