How to explicitly set the RMI port for JMX monitoring in Cognos Analytics

How To

Summary

When implementing external JMX monitoring for Cognos Analytics, the External JMX port is set in Cognos Configuration. However, JMX behaves in a way that uses the JMX port plus an additional RMI port that is randomly selected which makes it difficult to allow for this through a firewall.

This document explains how to set the RMI port to a specific value.
