Error description

  • Abstract
    AFM/ AFM-DR recovery hitting error 52.
    
    Error description:
    In an AFM/ AFM-DR set up, a customer encountered a
    problem
    that recovery cannot be finished because it kept hitting
    the error 52 (521) during tspcachescan. This can be seen
    in the GPFS logs.
    
    In the Spectrum Scale log file one can see the following
    kind of error repeatedly.
    
    AFM: Recovery on file system <fs name> fileset <fileset
    name>  failed with error 52. Recovery will be retried on
    next access after recovery retry interval (120 seconds)
    or manually resolve known problems and recover the
    fileset.
    
    
    OS and Spectrum Scale release:
    RHEL8.5, Spectrum Scale v5.1.2.7
    
    Local fix:
    To workaround it one can do changeSecondary or contact
    with the Spectrum Scale support.

Problem summary

  • There were unknown NFS errors hit during recovery and there were
     no bypass around these to get recovery to go through. 
    

Problem conclusion

  • This problem is fixed in 5.1.2.11

    Benefits of the solution:
    In case of future unknown errors that come with no option to
    bypass - this provides an option to bypass by manually editing
    recovery related bash scripts.
    
    Work around:
    None
    
    Problem trigger:
    Recovery unable to proceed upon hitting unknown persistent AFM
    Recovery errors.
