Flashes (Alerts)
Abstract
IBM has identified a low probability, failure scenario where Flash Systems 840, V840, 900 and V9000 can corrupt data.

Description
IBM has identified a scenario where a flash module correctable error can cause undetected data corruption. When the error occurs it is detected, and the flash module resets itself. In rare cases, before the reset is complete, a 4K block of zeros can be sent from the flash module.
Systems Affected
9840-AE1 FlashSystem 840 9846-AE1 FlashSystem V840
9843-AE1 FlashSystem 840 9848-AE1 FlashSystem V840
9840-AE2 FlashSystem 900 9846-AE2 FlashSystem V9000
9843-AE2 FlashSystem 900 9848-AE2 FlashSystem V9000
Mitigation
Upgrade to the 1.4.7.0 PTF – The PTF mitigates the likelihood of this corruption. In previous versions of firmware a zero page can be sent erroneously if a specific bit a set. The PTF disables the ability for the flash card to generate a zero page if the bit is set in error.
For V9000, a new firmware will contain the fixes to be implemented in releases 7.8.1.3 which are targeted for 3Q17.
