Abstract
On systems with an Emulex FC SAN adapter and NVMF-FC support, the kernel dump capture operation might not complete when the operating system (OS) is on a non-NVMF disk and you are configuring a dump target on a NVMF-FC device.
Content
Linux Releases Affected
Red Hat® Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 9.2, and later
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 15 Service Pack (SP) 5, and later
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 15 Service Pack (SP) 5, and later
IBM Systems Affected
All Power10 systems with Emulex FC adapters that have feature codes: EN1A, EN1L, or EN1N.
Description
If dump target is on a NVMF-FC device, the dump capture operation fails to save vmcore on the NVMF-FC device.
Workaround
If you use NVMF-FC device over lpfc-based adapter as a dump target, you need to make the following changes in the configuration of the kdump service:
SLES 15 SP 5, and later:
- Setup kdump target on nvmf device.
- Run the following command:
# touch /etc/sysconfig/kdump - Restart the kdump service by running the following command:
# systemctl restart kdump
RHEL 9.2, and later:
- Setup kdump target on nvmf device.
- Run the following command:
# touch /etc/kdump.conf - Restart the kdump service by running the following command:
# systemctl restart kdump.service
Note: Currently NVMF as dump target is not supported for fadump when OS is installed on NVMF.
