OpenSSL is used in IBM Storwize V7000 Unified for providing communication security by encrypting data being transmitted.

DESCRIPTION:
OpenSSL is vulnerable to a denial of service, caused by the incorrect use of pointer arithmetic for heap-buffer boundary checks. By leveraging unexpected malloc behavior, a remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to trigger an integer overflow and cause the application to crash.

DESCRIPTION:
OpenSSL could allow a remote attacker to obtain sensitive information, caused by an error in the DSA implementation that allows the following of a non-constant time codepath for certain operations. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability using a cache-timing attack to recover the private DSA key.

Affected Products and Versions

IBM Storwize V7000 Unified
The product is affected when running code releases 1.5.0.0 to 1.5.2.3 and 1.6.0.0 to 1.6.0.1

Remediation/Fixes

A fix for these issues is in version 1.5.2.5 and 1.6.2.0 of IBM Storwize V7000 Unified. Customers running an affected version of IBM Storwize V7000 Unified should upgrade to 1.5.2.5 or 1.6.2.0 or a later version, so that the fix gets applied.

Workarounds and Mitigations

Workaround(s): None

Mitigation(s): Although IBM recommends that you install a level of code with a fix for this vulnerability, you can mitigate, although not eliminate, your risk until you have done so by ensuring that all users who have access to the system are authenticated by another security system such as a firewall.
