Abstract

Upgrading or installing Unix STAP “Guardium_KTAP_11.4_rhel-8-linux-x86-64_r112810_2022-12-01” can cause a crash. This issue can potentially happen when user update Kernel on DB server from 4.18.0-425.3.1.el8.x86_64 to 4.18.0-425.10.1.el8.x86_64 while having Flex Load enabled and secure boot disabled.

Unix STAP installers released to support kernel from 4.18.0-425.3.1.el8.x86_64 will cause issue if it was used to flex load KTAP on db server with kernel from  4.18.0-425.10.1.el8.x86_64. This issue is not present on servers with secure boot enabled.
 
Remediation
Workaround:
To avoid running into this issue:
  • Users who are planning to upgrade their kernels to 4.18.0-425.10.1.el8_7.x86_64 they should upgrade their STAPs to the following versions:
    • v11.4 : Guardium_KTAP_11.4_rhel-8-linux-x86-64_r112810
    • v11.5 : Guardium_11.5.2.0_S-TAP_RedHat-7-8_r113723
    • v11.3 : Guardium_KTAP_11.3_rhel-8-linux-x86-64_r113457
 To recover from the crash, user need to uninstall the STAPs and install the versions mentioned above.
