IJ45174: VIOS SNAP TOO LARGE NOT HANDLED BY STAT() WELL

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • It is possible for the snap command to fail on a VIOS if
    the snap being collected is too large.
    
    The problem has been seen on VIOS 3.1.3.10.
    
    Sample of the errors observed:
    
    The output of the padmin snap command includes:
    $ snap
    ---snip---
    -rw-------  1 0   0  2669665501 Oct 13 10:56 snap.pax.Z
    ---snip---
           Unexpected Error
    
    Command did not complete.
    
    
    In the /home/ios/logs/ioscli_global.trace file we see:
    stat() fails for file /tmp/ibmsupt/snap.pax.Z. errno=127
    

Local fix

  • N/A
    

Problem summary

  • VIOS snap commnd may fail if the snap collected is greater
    than 2GB.
    

Problem conclusion

  • Using stat64() instead of stat() to calculate and compare
    file size and space available on lv.
