Summary

Badlock is a loophole that affects Windows and Samba systems/client. Badlock for Samba is referenced by CVE-2016-2118 (SAMR and LSA man in the middle attacks possible) and for Windows by CVE-2016-0128 / MS16-047 (Windows SAM and LSAD Downgrade Vulnerability). When Samba is configured as Domain Controller it allows remote attackers to spoof the computer name of a secure channel's endpoints, and obtain sensitive session information, by running a crafted application  and leveraging the ability to sniff network traffic

Vulnerability Details

Samba is used in IBM SONAS to enable file management and authentication services for Microsoft Windows environments.

DESCRIPTION:
Samba could allow a remote attacker to gain elevated privileges on the system, caused by the acceptance of inadequate authentication levels by the Microsoft Security Account Manager (SAM) and Local Security Authority (Domain Policy) (LSAD) remote protocols. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability using man-in-the-middle techniques to impersonate an authenticated user against the SAMR or LSAD service and gain access to the Security Account Manager (SAM) database. This vulnerability is also known as the BADLOCK bug.

Affected Products and Versions

IBM SONAS
The product is affected when running a code releases 1.5.0.0 to 1.5.2.3

Remediation/Fixes

A fix for this issue is in version 1.5.2.4 of IBM SONAS. Customers running an affected version of SONAS should upgrade to 1.5.2.4 or a later version, so that the fix gets applied.
