Security Bulletin
Summary
Cross-protocol attack on TLS using SSLv2
Vulnerability Details
OpenSSL is used in IBM SONAS for providing communication security by encrypting data being transmitted.
CVEID: CVE-2016-0800
DESCRIPTION: OpenSSL could allow a remote attacker to bypass security restrictions. By using a server that supports SSLv2 and EXPORT cipher suites as a Bleichenbacher RSA padding oracle, an attacker could exploit this vulnerability to decrypt TLS sessions between clients and non-vulnerable servers. This vulnerability is also known as the DROWN attack.
CVSS Base Score: 7.4
CVSSTemporal Score: See https://exchange.xforce.ibmcloud.com/vulnerabilities/111139 for more information
CVSSEnvironmental Score*: Undefined

Affected Products and Versions
IBM SONAS
The product is affected when running a code releases 1.5.0.0 to 1.5.2.3
Remediation/Fixes
A fix for these issues is in version 1.5.2.4 of IBM SONAS. Customers running an affected version of SONAS should upgrade to 1.5.2.4 or a later version, so that the fix gets applied.
Please contact IBM support for assistance in upgrading your system.
Workarounds and Mitigations
Workaround(s): None
Mitigation(s): SSLv2 is not offered in SONAS. Hence possibility of SONAS being affected by this security issue is only if private keys of SONAS are shared on any other server that allows SSLv2 connections. Although IBM recommends that you install a level of IBM SONAS code with a fix, you can avoid this vulnerability by not sharing private keys of SONAS on any other server that allows SSLv2 connections.
